NepTunes is a native macOS app that lives in your menu bar. It scrobbles everything you play in Apple Music or Spotify to Last.fm, shows what is playing with its artwork, and adds desktop widgets, universal share links and global hotkeys.
Yes. NepTunes follows whichever player is playing, Apple Music or Spotify, and scrobbles both. You can also copy a link to what you are listening to that opens in the other person’s music service instead of yours.
Only for scrobbling, and a Last.fm account is free. It is the only account NepTunes involves — the menu bar player, widgets, share links and hotkeys all work without one.
No. Spotify can scrobble to Last.fm on its own, so NepTunes leaves Spotify scrobbling off by default and you only turn it on if you have disabled Last.fm’s own Spotify connection. Apple Music has no Last.fm support of its own, so it is always covered.
Scrobbling, the menu bar player, share links, playback hotkeys and the standard macOS widget are free. A Pro subscription adds the live desktop panels, album artwork as your Dock icon, the current track formatted in your menu bar, and more.
The widget is the standard macOS widget you add from Notification Center, in small, medium or large, and it is free. The Pro panels are live, always-on windows on your desktop built from HTML, CSS and JavaScript, and you can build your own.
NepTunes 4 runs on macOS 26 or later.
No. There is no analytics and no tracking, in NepTunes or on this website. The only account involved is the Last.fm one you choose to connect, and artwork and share links are matched against public music catalogs.
NepTunes is free on the Mac App Store, with an optional Pro subscription. NepTunes 4 is in beta right now — leave your email on the home page and we will send you an invite.
